Snow Bunting Plectrophenax nivalis

VN81690 an Icelandic race female in her second year was ringed on 17th January 1997 at Old Hunstanton, Norfolk, England.
On the 28th February 1998 four hundred and seven days later she was recaptured at Akureyri, Iceland,
1755 Kilometres away. At that time we thought it was a pretty remarkable occurrence, so we were surprised to hear that on the 19th December 2005 she was seen in The Netherlands at Den Helder, setting a new British longevity record of 8 years 11 months which previously stood at 6 years. It is only 7 months off the European record of 9.6 years but in any case is pretty old. She must have travelled many thousands of kilometres during those years!
